ok, ok here's the story

Since a few people have asked....

My wife (then girlfriend) and I were looking to get a puppy once we moved in together in the fall of 2000. We're both dog lovers, and figured a puppy would be a lot of fun. We watch several dog shows throughout the year, and attend a couple local ones. It's important to note that she is 11 yrs my senior, and was married for 18 yrs with no kids. Her husband and she had even tried some fertility stuff at one point, no luck. So, with her being 43 at the tim (in 2000) and never ever having gotten pregnant (being a good Catholic girl, there was no birth control with her husband) we assumed that children were not a possibility for us. Well, once we decided to get serious about finding a puppy, that's when HP applied his delightful sense of humor and worked His miracle, providing us with a lil surprise! At first, of course we were shocked, couldn't figure out how this could've happened (besides the obvious....). We were really ok with not having kids (being the selfish/self centered alkies we are) and had really come to peace with all of that.

I am so grateful... I would have missed all of the incredible wonderfulness of having our son. It's not that he wasn't wanted, that was never, ever the case for a second. He was just well, a surprise... I am grateful to both of our HP for giving us the best gift we could ever have asked for. It's proof that good things come from AA, for we met in the program. It's proof that God knows what's best for us. It's proof there is a God. 18 yrs of marriage with her husband and never a pregnancy.... hmmmm I am guessing there may have been a plan....

Thank God!

So, there's the story... Funny thing is, after Ian was born, it took us almost 4 yrs to get the dog. Mama bear had a hard time pulling the trigger on getting the dog. She's home all day with the boy so, it is a handful now with Cosmo too.... She's a Parson Russell Terrier, she's the White Tornado!

And what a beautiful surprise! Maybe you two were not ready to take on the responsibility of a dog . . .
