It's Amateur Night!

The only good thing about NYE back in the day was that I could fit in and blend into the insanity. Unfortunately for me, I was still usually one of the last people going hard at it in the wee hours. I would go to a NYE party (when I wasn't hosting one) with my own booze and pot, knowing there'd be plenty. But, I was always afraid of running out, or not having exactly what I wanted to drink. I can remember one NYE party my fiance (at the time) and I hosted... I recall being dragged from our bathroom to our bedroom by my brother (who shared my sobriety date and got me into AA later on) and "laid to rest" for the evening. My fiance (poor hostages that she and her lil girl were) told me the next day that she didn't sleep a wink that nite due to all my gurgling and wheezing as I slept passed out across our bed. But again, I wasn't hurting anyone but myself. The culprit(s) this time were a bottle of Tanquere Gin, some Kamikaze shots, Champagne and a bunch of pot. Again, not my fault (or so I thought). Ah fond memories of the "good ole days!!" LOL NOT!

Today, I am grateful for...

AA/God/HP/JC

my wife son n doggie

not having to go through the stress of planning the perfect mixture of intoxicants for this evening's celebration

a fun gig which includes good friends, a free prime rib dinner and $50 bucks (we normally don't make any money for playing, we do it for the fun...)

the fact that (besides my sinus infection) I will wake up relatively bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow morning...

not having to go back to work until Tuesday, even though I will spend some time working on my new marketing project over the days off...

for blogging friends that will have safe, fun and sober celebrations as well...

Prayer for the day...

God/HP/JC, thank You for another sober day and the conclusion of another sober year full of major changes in my life. Thanks for the courage to make those changes and the faith to not freak out over the changes I didn't "authorize!" I pray for Your Will and Your Grace this evening for my family, friends, AA's, bloggers, etc that everyone might enjoy a safe and wonderful NYE celebration. I pray that maybe the people picked up tonite for DWI might find Your Grace in the events to follow, leading those that need You to You and to AA/recovery. I pray for Your will for our troops and their families, as we conclude our Holidays, that no one be too sad or lonely, and that they are all held in the safety and warmth of Your Spirit. please, God Help me to remember that I am here to be of service!

A Happy, Prosperous and peaceful New Year to you all!

Thanks for sharing that story. I am grateful many of us no longer celebrate (what a sad celebration) that way.
