yay, it's retreat time!

Well, this afternoon begins our 8th Annual Winter Retreat for Men of AA. I am definitely ready for a little time out of the routine. Hopefully, my wife will survive the weekend alone with Ian and Cosmo. She's not too fond of me being gone from home. But, she doesn't make too much of it I guess that's a big part of marriage... give and take. She knows she is certainly more than welcome to go to retreats, or spend time with "the girls" whenever she wants. It just so happens that she isn't into retreats and doesn't have very many friends. She's much more happy hanging out at home with us. I just hope Ian doesn't drive her completely insane while I am gone. I am going to spend the rest of my time at home today hanging out with Ian, giving mama bear a little break. I came home early to do that...

Today's Poll:

What was it that finally got you to the realization that you needed recovery?

For me it was my brother attending a few AA meetings with my dad and coming home one nite with "44 Questions" and an extra Big Book, to conduct a "loving evaluation of my progress" through life to that point. He got me thinking, and I came to my first meeting. Bottom line was that I knew my life was a mess, but it took someone else to point it out to me. I was beat down enough to listen and not fight with him. Thank You HP for the Grace to listen!

Prayer for today...

JC/HP/God, please help me to stay sober. Thank You for inspiring me to write the post yesterday, that gave Sober Chick something to help a friend with. I love when You use me to carry The Word. I pray for You to be with my wife and Ian this weekend while I am gone. Help me use this weekend to better myself, that I might be a better dad and husband as a result of the time spent away on retreat. I hope that Ian minds well, and doesn't make things too difficult on her this weekend. God, I ask for Your Will and Grace for those sick and suffering with our disease, for those affected by the awful weather (esp/ my in-laws who are staying in El Paso until the storm clears). I pray that You might guide our troops safely home to their families,a nd protect them while they are defending our country. Thank You God for all the blessings, family and friends in my life today!

Peace be with you all, have a great weekend and I will catch up with ya in a couple days!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

I knew I needed recovery after too many cycle of swearing in the AM that "I will not drink today" only to be drinking that evening. Or maybe it was my first blackout...not sure.

Have a great weekend.
I think God guided me into the rooms and I didn't have much awareness or volition in the matter - or I would probably still be out there.
