training day!

Today is "University of Scouting" day. I will be working towards and achivieing my "Master's Degree" in Cub Scouting today. We come together each March for this day of training that we might become better volunteers, better leaders of our youth. I'll take six courses today and will be awarded my patch and certificate at the end of the afternoon. Next year I will begin work on my doctorate, but that one take two years of U of S before completion. I know it seems kind of funny in a way, but it's actually a wonderful day of sharing and learning all wrapped in fun and fellowship. It's for the boys and for my son that I do these things. AA taught me to be of service.

If you would have told me 15 years ago that I would be teaching CCD to Catholic high school and jr high kids, leading a pack a Cub Scouts as their Cubmaster, running a small town chamber of commerce and doing all the other awesome things I get to do, I'd have told you that you're nuts. I am so blessed today with the life God's given me through recovery, that sometimes I can hardly believe this is me. God continues to bless me so abundantly, in so many ways. I feel I must do these things or be caught selling my self and God's Will short. Our life isn't perfect, and it's certainly not without challenges and disappointments. But by and large, our life is a life lived in the Sunlight of the Spirit, trudging the Happy Road of Destiny together.

I am going to go put on my Scout uniform and go learn something new. I pray that I am the best example of goodness for our boys that I can be. I pray that God uses me to spread His message of goodness and abundance. I pray that I am open to new things, to God's Grace and that I am willing to pay it all forward.

Scott, you and I have both been abundantly blessed by sobriety, in ways we couldn't have imagined in our old lives. Hope your training day really rocked!

Scott, I like all the things that you do to give back to others both in the fellowship and your community. You are inspiring.
