Poetry Bus

Chris over at Enchanted Oak tempted me with this little photographic morsel this weekend. Here's my first boarding onto the "Poetry Bus."

"Old Boat"

Resting peacefully along the lake shore,
you've done your duty, old boat and oar.
Brought us nigh under sun so bright,
to relax under hoary willow and oak.
Our love is found here, and on into the night,
we eat, talk, stretch out on hard ground
to gaze upon stars through dappled moonlight.
That of course, was many moonlit nights before
we wept together as friends and now we
have faded from that rested lake shore.
Now I'm here alone, resting once again
You both have gone, I know not where or when.

Holy mackeral, Scott! I'm impressed as all get-out with your inaugural poem for the Poetry Bus. You have a fine touch. Those opening lines are gripping in a beautiful way. Write on!

Great to see you on the bus, hope you'll catch another ride soon. This is a very reflective piece and as Brian mentioned ends very sadly.
"Our love is found here, and on into the night,
we eat, talk, stretch out on hard ground"
Those are may favourite lines there is somehting of the now, the past and possible future in these words
I really enjoyed reading your piece :)

Hi Scott, so glad you got yourself a ticket!
Loved this conversion of picture to memory, and the feeling that flows through it. Really emotive, beautifully and economically done.

Scott, your poem took me back years and years to life on my grandparent's farm, their pond which seemed huge to me then, and all of the lazy afternoons and early evenings I spent floating it.

I like this....old boat and oar. That picture really stirs up the water. Nice work.
