getting ready

Tonite, I have the priviledge of giving a talk at an AA meeting. I love when I am asked to lead a meeting (mainly because I love to hear myself talk, and be the center of attention). I always feel so good when I am done. I have lived in this area for over 8 yrs and have never been to this meeting. I feel kind of bad for never visiting out there but, it's about a 40 minute drive in a direction I never find a reason to go in. So, I finally get to head out there and see what's going on!

I got my Fed taxes done yesterday. Not pretty... But, at least I have been earning interest on my money, rather than the Feds. My state taxes won't be so tasty either, but that's another day. Yesterday, I also worked up a proposal for a customer and made a really good presentation over the phone. If I get the deal, I won't make a ton of money on it, but I will have made a really good customer who will be buying more rental properties in the future. So, it would be great if they chose me for their financing. In my time as a mortgage broker, I have learned that is doesn't pay to try to make your first million bucks on each deal. I take the long road with people, set them up well, treat them excellently, charge them competitively and play for that referral and repeat business. That seems to work pretty well.
I am not sure why I am telling you all this, guess I just am!

Today, my son and I spent the afternoon watching the Nascar race at Bristol while we worked on the birthday card for my wife's grandmother. She turns 100 on April 11th. We're going to Phoenix next month to join in the celebration and stay with her brother for a couple weeks. 100 years old, holy smokes I cannot even imagine. The kool thing is that her granny is still pretty dialed in to what's going on around her. She gets tired quickly, and sometimes forgets who she's talking to but hell, I do that at 37! My boy and I have had a blast making this card, and I think it really made my wife happy that we're taking the time to do a project together.

Well, I need to get on the road to the meeting....

Today I am grateful for:

AA
HP
my wife, son and doggie
trips to see family in AZ
that I can pay my taxes, even though it's gonna take a huge chunk outta my butt to do so
sobriety
my health
leading meetings
racing
that I took the time to make this card with my son

"mainly because I love to hear myself talk, and be the center of attention" LOL, yes yes yes! I have a friend that get's upset when people share their experience, strength and hope mainly focusing on the drinking days. However, I love that part because it is then that I can relate and discover how different I really am not.

The Big Book places emphasis on our past - it is how we gain the trust of another alcoholic. I like to hear myself talk to but lately I have been listening, I think God wants me to do this right now.

And, hAAppy 34th day of a smoke free wife. I was talking to my sweetie about smoking today. I cannot picture this of him today, but he use to smoke up to a pack a day for about 5 years. When he was quitting he made a list each night of 10 new reasons to quit. When we met he smoked on occasion. Then as my blackout and Dz progressed he picked it up bad. Today it is different.

That is so cool that you and your son are spending this time together. When I hear things like this I am humbled and it makes me smile. Parenting is gift. I am a parent thus far to an 8 year old dog and 4 cats and some day hope to experience the good and not so good days of meing a parent.

Congrats on tax completion!!!!
