a nice lil meeting...

Another snowy morning... must be winter, lol! We're only getting a couple inches this time so that's kool. It makes everything look fresh and clean again, I love that!!!

I drove into town for the jail meeting and they were using the classroom for of all things, class, lol. Don't they know who we are?? haha. That's the thing I love about recovery, it was like "oh, okay.. who wants to go grab a cup of coffee?" So, a friend and I went to grab a cup and ended up having a great little two man meeting. It was nice because he was the one who introduced me to the AA service structure, he was delegate when I met him years ago and he''s still very active at the Area level today. We had a real nice chat about local meetings, service, stuff like that. I love those nice little surprise meetings. Actually, that's the 3rd one of those this week, not including home group. That's one of the most important things I think, about recovery: making friends in the fellowship and letting people get to know you. Because I've gotten to know all these people over the years, my LIFE is about recovery, not just the hour I spend in a meeting. My whole life is built around AA and recovery. Many of my friends are in recovery, my wife is in recovery, my dad is in recovery... I've found it to be quite easy to maintain my recovery and serenity when I am immersed in it!

I am really excited... Tomorrow I get to teach again for the first time in 13 yrs! A friend I met while playing my horn in church has asked me to come work with the low brass section in his high school band in preparation for their upcoming band contest. So tomorrow I get two and a half hrs with these kids, then I am supposed to stick around and help while he rehearses the full band. I am really looking forward to doing this! I love helping kids learn more about music, and about themselves through music. And, I feel like I really owe the "music/teaching universe" some serious time and effort based on the fact that I really trashed my own music career and performed well below my abilities as a musician and teacher during my heavy drugging and drinking. It feels really, really good to be giving back!

Prayer for today...

God/HP/JC, thank you for another blessed, sober day. Thank You for the beautiful blanket of fluffy snow this morning, how peaceful! Help me be a great dad and husband today, especially tonite as we attend the local mom's group "Hawaiian Luau" thing... I really, really don't wanna go, for selfish reasons so,I am going to try really hard and have a super positive attitude, and make it as nice and as fun as I can for Ian and my wife. Could You help me do that today? Also, Thank You Thank You so much for the chance to teach again tomorrow. I know I really let You and me and lots of others down with my past behavior where music and teaching are concerned. Thank You for giving me the chance to redeem myself!

have a peace filled day!

Giving of yourself is great, but giving to kids is the best!

That is so great for you--teaching the kids!! I happen to be partial to the french horn, but that is because my 9yr old plays!! Have fun tonight too!!
As for making friends along the way in recovery, that is just so important. We all need friends who understand what we are going through, and also, where we have been!!

I love to read your blog. It makes me feel like that in some way I am a small part in your life. I will keep you in my prayers.

I saw the birthday thing on Gene's site and used it. It really is neat.
