Planting some flowers and shrubs this evening, a little Rotary Club service work in a new park in town... Tonight was a perfectly perfect divinely inspired evening if ever there was one with regard to the weather. Nice for planting! I had to bring Ian along, as mama bear was at the grocery so he got a taste of service work. He "dug" (pun intended) in and helped without grumbling at all and I was quite impressed. What a good boy! (for 8 yrs old and one of his final summer nights before school, he did great!)

I've been a little cranky the past couple of days. I think it's just that I have a LOT of things going right now, and it has been FAR too long between meetings. I've got to get my meeting act together here and hit a few. Thankfully, with the blogging I do, I am well steeped in things spiritual recovery. However, there's just no replacing a good AA meeting.

Performing service work helps and comes close though :-)

Have a wonderful evening!

I love gardening - it can be very meditative. There definitely is no substitute for good and regular meetings, though!

I agree a meeting is best. Blogging does help throughout the day. And so does simplifying. You are a very busy person so that isn't easy for you but maybe just ten minutes of quiet meditation might help soothe your attitude?...

Brian- to answer your question:

I have gotten into the "volunteer" thing here in our small town after many years of being a "quiet taker." Getting and staying sober in AA over the past 14 years has taught me the importance of service to others. I have to get out of myself and give freely to those around me. Turns out, I love it!

I belong to a few local service clubs and do projects with them, like planting flowers in the park with Rotary. I run our chamber of commerce (that's the paying gig), I help out at church. teach CCD, sit on several boards. I just want to be a part of making my community a better place to live. I don't even know why. It began slowly as an offshoot from AA service and a desire to grow my small business and network and now I just enjoy helping. Who knew?

Reading blogs helps but is no substitute for face to face meetings. Nice to be planting things in the new park.
