Tuesday Truths

Tomorrow evening is my final CCD classes for a couple weeks. In the high school group I am going to be teaching what Christ taught about Pride. We'll read a parable and discusss it, and have them share their thoughts about pride. But, before we get to that, I think we'll have a discussion of the Seven Deadly Sins, what makes them deadly (generally speaking) and why Pride seems to garner the most attention of them all.

In junior high we're discussing mysteries of our faith, and the final session willl cover the Eucharist, and the Holy Trinity. Nothing like closing on the Big Two! lol We've already covered Creation, and the Immaculate Conception and birth of Christ.

In preparation for my spiritual retreat coming in January, I have been planning to do a couple guided meditations. I think I might base one of them on the Seven Deadly Sins, sort of an examination of our defects of character, and finish the meditation with a cleansing exercise, sort of a 4th/5th Step meditation. Our past retreat master has done that with us several times with an awesome spiritual healing guided meditation that is folloed by a laying on of hands. I want to do something similar, but with my own spin on it. I don't know, I am feeling the pressure of having to create a program for recovering AA's to have an exceptional retreat. I know I will find the content, and answers in the Big Book and 12X12. Lots of prayer upcoming for me.

I do know that I have completed much background research where the Seven Deadly Sins are concerned lol.

Discussing character defects is good, but also it's important to discuss the assets we have as well. It keeps things in balance.

Scott, I came over for Microfiction Monday but I'm always drawn deeper into your writing.

I'm particularly struck by how difficult it is to teach children about pride as a sin when so much of the world around them shows that pride in their works, etc. is part of self-esteem. I wish you well in leading young people in this exploration! If we all embraced a little more humility, the whole world would be better off.

Merry Christmas!
