rolling with the punches...

Well, at the end of a crazy week, I can report good news on the mom/cancer front.  Her biopsy results show that the cancer is not in her lymph nodes.  The surgeon tells us he got the entire cancerous mass in her right lung by removing the entire upper lobe.  So other than recovering from her surgery, we're in good shape!  I've had so mucch going on, I don't know that I have had much time to process everything.  Our household has been sick for the past three weeks, and the usual busy schedule prevails through all of the sickness and health concerns.  I've been hitting meetings, praying, and reading Scripture in an effort to keep myself on a somewhat even keel.  I'm feeling a bit frayed around the edges, and quite anxious but none the worse for wear, all things considered.  Reliance upon HP in times like this is everything.  If I didn't have the AA program, good friends, family and my Catholic faith community I don't know how I'd have made it through the past few weeks especially.

Having said all that, we've still got financial issues to deal with.  The savings is running out, real estate is active but not bearing financial fruit nearly quickly enough.  I just missed out on a career opportunity that would've really bailed us out financially, but I've stumbled upon another opportunity.  So, I am tweeking the resume and writing a stunning cover letter this morning in an effort to get an interview for a local bank position.  Those of you who know me from this blog know that my background includes years of mortgage lending and banking.  That part of my career hasn't been my most favorite, so I am going to have to talk myself into becoming enthusiastic about this new opportunity.  But, the moneyshould be very good, and it's an upper level position that can lead to even great opportunity.

My wife has been quick to remind me how unhappy I was in my last bank/mortgage gig working for a gi-normous corporate bank as a loan officer.  (It's her usual negative perspective lol)   This particular bank is a much smaller, privately held bank with an amazing growth record over the past 5 years while other banks have languished as the result of poor lending decisions and business practices.  I would be operating their entire mortgage lending operation from the inside, underwriting, handling compliance, regulatory and training issues for the entire mortage function.  So, it's not sales, quota and pressure diven from that perspective.  While it's not the most exciting thing in the world, given my entrepreneurial personality and style, I have to make something happen for my family at this point.  I am really growing tired of the "potential" of the various business ventures I've been invlved with.  I am ready for a bit of a routine and a steady, solid salary that comes with a position like this.  I'll learn to deal with the conservative nature of the organization and position.  I can do that.

So, I am off to "get my gameface on" and kick ass once again.  I came REALLY close to scoring a BIG gig last month, and I was a finalist for a nice gig in November.  They say that the third time is the charm, right?  Let's hope so!

I am planning to carve a bit of time over the weekend to spend with all of you on your blogs.  I have missed reading you all...

Be well!

Glad the news was good on your mom. Banks aren't so bad to work for...there are worse places anyway. :)
