It is going to be a chilly (39 degrees f) wet baseball practice today, but we're going to do it. I'm enjoying a nice hot chocolate to warm up before getting changed and heading out the door. It was nice to have time to read your blogs this morning before heading out to start the day.
Later tonight, the big band (30-40 swing era type band) I play with has a wedding gig. Wedding gigs are so much fun because everyone is so happy and having a great time. There are so few big bands working out there (especially here in western Ohio fly-over-country) anymore that folks really enjoy what we do. The bride and her father are going to sing Nat (and Natalie) King Cole's "Unforgettable" along with us at some point in the evening. It should be a nice night.
I managed to find time to get to two of the three noon meetings in town this week. I needed to be there. After the rigamarole with the bank and the crazy bussy past two weeks, I am struggling to keep my ego in check and my mind clear. We talked about accceptance, about not taking ourselves too seriously and about our relationship with HP. It really helps to share where I am with other alcoholics so I can keep good perspective. Even after 16 years sober in AA, it is still easy enough to get "off the beam" and begin to revert to self-centeredness and overblown self-importance.
AA helpss me remember EXACTLY who and what I am. I find humility in AA. I find honesty, truth and love in AA and I need those things. On my own, my honesty and humility can erode if I am not careful. So, it's still really, really beneficial for me to be on a regular diet of meetings, prayer, and recovery conversation with other alcoholics and addicts.

Good luck on the gig and that does sound like a nice night. Is it a sober wedding? Someone through the Program?

The music gig sounds great. Yes, I like to keep in mind that I don't need to get cocky about anything. Humility is a good thing.
