zoning out

I spent the weekend zoning in and out of consciousness it seems... I came down with a nasty sinus infection late last week and it is kickin' mah bootay! I couldn't go another day however, without my bloggage fix! I missed my bloggin' peeps entirely too much.

Our boy had his first nite away from home. I ran him up to him Grandma's house Fri nite, dropped him off and went on my way. It was hard to leave him there... He did really well, and his Grandma and Grandpa (my mom and step dad) spoiled the hell out of him! After I dropped him off, I ran over to my old home group. I joined that group at about 6 mo sober and was a member until I was a little over 2 yrs sober when I moved 2 hrs south. I try to get over there a few times a year, when I am up visiting my folks. It was so good to see the guys there. In fact, one old timer, who was very important to me early on, was there. It was soo great to see him!! He's got Parkinson's and he's getting on in years, so he's in one of those motorized scooters, on oxygen, the whole magilla. He looks pretty rough, but he's tough and loving as always! I had called him a few weeks ago just to check in, but it had been well over a year since I had seen him last. I sure do miss the tough love approach to recovery that is practiced in that meeting. It's a Mens Closed discussion. And, while there's certainly nothing wrong with going to meetings with ladies, there is a completely different dynamic in a Men's Closed meeting. (which is precisely what led me to start my current home group a yr and a half ago) Anyhow, I ended up hitting 5 meetings last week and 4 the week before. Gee, I wonder why I am feelin' so good spiritually, even though my job/career stuff hasn't changed any. Funny how that works, huh? Just since I've begun to blog back in January, I have felt better. I am glad I discovered this great little world!

today I am grateful for:

AA
HP
my wife, son and doggie
the snowstorm out in the plains is hopefully going south of here
that I am well into this sinus infection, which means I am probably closer to the end than the beginning
dAAve showing me how to get a hit counter on my blog
meetings
newcomers
that I finally found a cleaning rod for my trombone, some trombotine and cheesecloth! FINALLY!! (and that I had the courage to discuss the career opportunities at that music store, and got an e-mail addy to send them my resume)

... and we're glad you've joined this little world.

I go to 14 or 15 meetings every week since getting sober 2 1/2 years ago. It keeps me on a spiritual high. I can't imagine (yet) going to less meetings as I get something different from each of them.

Scott - its so good to see you around here. I love hearing you talk about your meetings. I miss the open AA meeting I used to go to. there's something about how the old school AAer's work their program that gets me off my ass and into mode.

Thanks for sharing and take care care of yourself. Meg

I too had to leave a home group after 9 years and find a new one. As of late I have had a chance to go back and attend and your right it just feels sooooo good to be back to where it all started for me.
