i am shrinking, no wait....

The human body is a puzzler... At least mine is, lol. Week 1 initial weigh in was 255 lbs. Last week, week 5 was 244.5 lbs. At one point Fri morning I was down to 240, feeling pretty damn good about things. Today, week 6: 243.5. Ok, that's just wrong, lol. I did hit the fam reunion Saturday, but I played a shitload of volleyball and took a good walk that morning. I figured a little excess calorie burnage couldn't hurt right? Well, my arms, legm shoulders, even my butt hurts. So much for that theory... I guess I'd havea gained weight this week, had I not walked and volleyed so, the message here is take what ya get, eb grateful, and no more family reunions for awhile!

This Wednesday, my home group is celebrating its 2 yr anniversary. We're going to order pizza and watch My Name is Bill W. That should be fun! We might even have a gal wander into our midst! There's been some bitchin' from the country folk round here 'bout the "discriminatory nature" of our little Men's Closed Discussion. Well, I have been ignoring it, even when the District gave some serious discussion regarding whether or not to list our group, due to our "discriminatory nature." Whatever... I was tempted to mail each District officer (and our Area Delegate (who happened to be at the meeting sharing his concerns over the "discriminatory nature" of our humble little meeting) a copy of the Dayton, OH meeting schedule, the Cincy meeting schedule, the Toledo meeting schedule, the Columbus... ok you get the point. They are loaded with Men's Closed meetings. In fact, interestingly enough, no one ever complained about the ongoing women's mtg not too far from here... What's my point? Hell, I dont even know. All I did, was ignore it all, lol. Frankly, if a gal came wandering into our meeting we'd welcome her with open arms, the same as any other meeting. People just don't get it sometimes... There's an entirely different dynamic that occurs in a closed, same sex meeting, ok at least in the men's side of things. I am sure it goes much the same way for the ladies. I kinda look at it this way... It falls under the category of Tradition 4, autonomy. If this thing is meant to fail, if HP thinks it so bad, He'll allow it to die of it's own accord.

Prayer for the day:

God/HP, thank You for keeping me sober... Without you, I have nothing. Thank You for the kind reporter who took the time to interview me, and write up a really nice article on the business; and for the editor who ran it on the Saturday's front page of our local paper. God, I pray that I may carry an attitude of gratitude with me today, and share it with as many people as possible. I pray I may not spend my vaulable time and energy wondering why the heck the person who put the offer in on our property in KY has yet to respond to our fair counter-offer. Help me to remember that we all have a right to be here no matter what our beliefs or opinions and that it makes no sense for me to try to judge another person. Only you know what went into making them who/what they are today. I pray I may leave the unravelling of the mysteries of those around me to you. Thanks again for putting me in touch with the swing band,w e had a ball last evening helping a sweet couple celebrate 50 yrs of marriage.

peace to y'all...

Hey Scott!

I am TOTALLY with you on the whole same sex meeting dynamic thing... When I started up the OA meeting here in my town, I wanted to list it as a "Ladies Only" but instead listed it as a "Ladies Focus" which is all they would allow >:O\

Obviously it's the 12-step philosophy that all are welcome and I understand them wanting to stay consistent; but HELLO!!!... Men & women are different folks and I know there are a whole heck of a lot of people who would feel more at ease being in an environment where everyone relates; a safe haven where one can share without any hesitation, embarrassment, or censoring. I just think that there are plenty of meetings out there (like you said) for every addiction and it couldn't hurt to have a few more "only" meetings for those of us who prefer it... I bet there are quite a few people who have been reluctant to attend meetings for this very reason, or lack thereof.

Damn can I ramble! I've really got to work on getting my thoughts across without writing a friggin book ;O) Basically I just wanted to say that I agree with you whole-heartedly, congratulations on the AWESOME weight loss!!! And thank you thank you thank you for all the encouragement & kind words you leave for me - You're wonderful! :O)

That's why you shouldn't weigh yourself more than once a week. :P

Many times the noon meeting has been mistaken for a men's meeting, because there the men often outweigh the women. Lambda Center has closed women's meetings, we used to have a people of color meeting but no designated men's meeting. That would cause a stir I am positive. It's something I do not understand.

I love reading your prayers to your Higher Power. They inspire me.

From your last HNT picture you are a pretty cute guy. But I guess we all have to feel comfortable in our own skin which is something I have been working on for a long time too. I'm sorry I haven't gotten around to reading your blog. But always remember you friend JJ is here.
I see you,
JJ
