Service!

We're getting ready for Mass... After that, it's off to the District meeting with Ian (mommy's home group is this afternoon). I haven't been to District in some time and it's time to turn in our Group information forms, with any updates. Plus, I need to take some cash over there. I used to be very active in the AA service structure but once we had Ian, I dropped out of that stuff. Now, my service is different... I get to that jail mtg as often as possible, I chair my home group and basically keep it going as we only have 3 members (two of which live 30 mins away). I try to make myself as accessible as possible to my sponsee and other peeps asking for help. And, I try to set a good example of AA in action as I can and I lead whenever asked. The only real reason I mention all this is to remind myself that just because I am no longer active in the service structure of AA, I am still of service to God and AA. For awhile, I beat myself up because I was no longer an Area officer, or even a District officer or committee chairperson. Service is important, it's one third of our legacy. but, I believe it starts at the home group and with sponsees. Everyone in AA can give back what was freely given, to the best of their ability, whatever that may be! The important thing for me is to get outta myself!!

Monster Jam was a blast yesterday, Ian and I had a ball. I'll post some pics on my pic blog later on. After District meeting, Ian and I are going to the Y. I got a little off track over Christmas and New Years what with all the visiting and so forth. I got a workout in on Fri nite and I need to keep going and get over there today. I gotta get myself feeling better and more healthy. (and no, this isn't a resolution..I don't even bother with that.. one day at a time!)

Prayer for the day...

God/HP/Jesus, please help me to stay sober again today. Thanks to You, I have been blessed with many days at a time of continuous sobriety! I pray that I have the discipline today to seek Your Will in all I do. I pray that I have the humility to get out of myself enough to be of service to those around me, especially You. I pray for Your Will for my wife, that she might have the courage today to turn her smoking over to You... (I am being careful not to pray for any particular outcome here, or for my will...) God, thank You for the Blessings You've given me. All that is good in my life today comes to me through You and Your son and the Holy Spirit. none of it would be possible without Your gift of sobriety. I pray I never forget that.

peace to y'all...

OOH I can so relate to being really involved at a district level, things changed here too... seem like when I got married, my free time got shorter... LOL not that I am complaining I love being with my husband.
I have to remind myself, too, that chairing meetings at my home group, being available to my sponsees and other, being on various committee ect, is enough.

You are soo good. Have fun today with Ian at your side. I take Bayleigh with me to a lot of AA stuff. I think its good, she knows I am in AA and do not drink, she knows AA is important to me... and right since I am the treasurer at my home group, when I am counting the 7th tradition she wants to put a buck in too. I think its good to let the kids be apart of when they can. Thanks for sharing this Scott and have a good one

My service availability comes in cycles too....I kinda let God guide me. Sometimes my home group, sponsees and family have to come first. Then I will get a gentle nudge. Never beat yourself up Scott. And congrats on leaving your wife's smoking to God...this is hard, but it works.

Hey - me and my boys went to Monster Trucks this weekend too! We were just in Houston doing it! : ) I hope you and Ian enjoyed the show as much as we did. Its a yearly tradition for us. Did you see Grave Digger, Maximum Destruction etc? If so, there must be doubles b/c that's who we saw!! LOL!

That is so great. You are able to live life and be a husband and a father. My sponsor has 3 little kids and her parenting is so important. She is of service to them daily and can only make weekend meetings.

We are all at different levels. Again thank you for your support and words at this time.

Give Cosmo is Big hug for me.

There is the principle of rotation and I think it is really important for people to step aside and let the newer people have the experience of service. They don't get the chance if we won't step down.
