The trip went well, the wedding was beautiful and all is right with the world. We got outta there by 9pm, stayed with my mom and step-dad and had a nice visit with them. My mom took us out for a nice brunch Sunday then we headed for home. All things being equal, it was a really nice weekend even if it did flash by! We are clessed to have my brother's wife in the family, she is a great gal!
It wasn't a lot of fun watching folks (especially some family members) get "polluted" at the reception and I really couldn't get outta there fast enough. I have no desire to drink or partake in any of it so, that's not the issue. I just truly do not enjoy that environment any longer. It's just not something I like to be around, especially at my formerly sober, "AA traveling companion" brother's wedding. Too weird and disappointing for this alcoholic.
This evening is an important one for our Chamber of Commerce . We're hosting a business after hours, which is no big deal really, we do them frequently enough. But, we have a special guest this evening that will really boost the image and importance of the chamber in some important business circles. Our congressman to the US H of R will be in attendace for a private "back room" type meeting with a smaller group of elected officials and business owners I've invited. Then he'll meet with the entire group a little later to give a talk and take some questions. We don't get to see him more than once or twice a year in town so this is kind of a big deal for us. He is well liked by most folks around these parts and represents his constituency well for the most part. It will be kind of fun rubbing elbows with "the powers that be" and it's nice to be the one to make all of this come together. I've been working at making the Chamber a bit more "professionally relevant" and this will take is in that direction.
Tomorrow, it's a well earned golf outing (if I do say so myself lol). I haven't swung a club since last summer so I fully anticipate being the one on the team to provide the entertainment, lol. It'll be fun.
peace to you all!

Glad you had safe travels and that you enjoyed the wedding. I too no longer have a desire to be in the environment of people who enjoy polluting themselve. When I think that I used to be a part of the caos I want to shudder. Good luck with the business meeting!
Yes, I totally get not wanting to be around a lot of drunk people. Neither my wife or I enjoy that. When the sloppiness starts, I make my exit.
