We rafted the "Upper" New River all day yesterday and what a perfect day we had! It was hot and sunny until we had two heavy downpours (which cooled us off nicely). The river was beautiful and the rapids we encountered were fairly mild (Class I-III). Ian and I spent the day in a two person "duckie" (inflatable kayak) and had a blast.

The gorge was amazing to behold and I was blessed to really feel connected to HP while out in the mountains, on the river. My wife and son didn't get along well and she spent a good part of the day grumpy. I didn't concern myself with that and just enjoyed the day. It felt great to not wrap myself up in other people's stuff!

As for the family reunion, it has not been without a few annoyances and tense moments. However, Al-anon taught me that I can (and should) detach myself from situations in a loving way and be at peace. So far so good :-)

We'll go back to the rafting place today (it's an outdoor adventure complex). I plan to hike a bit and just sit, read and relax.

Talk to you soon!

Sounds awesome. I learned something from your blog today... to lovingly detach and be at peace. This is something I am terrible at. If someone is in a bad mood I feel that I have to cheer them up when instead I need to be concerned with my own affairs. Thanks for being a practicing example. Enjoy the rest of your vacation.

It sounds like a great trip. The rafting is awesome. Enjoy and good for you on using the tools of the program. They are as essential as breathing.
