Poetry Potluck

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! In honour of St. Valentine's Day, Poetry Potluck examines love and relationships today. So, let your heart inspire your keyboard, and share the results with us over at Jingle Poetry!

"Love, just for today"
Love's not lost, only unaccounted for.
So many days we spent together, but somewhat adrift.
We've joined with each other, and God gave us this gift,
a son to enjoy, to teach, and live life with.
Many years we've spent with our sights set on him,
only to realize we've forgotten ourselves.
Today is a day where we focus less on within.
We pull our love from the shelves,
and the re-gifting begins.
We now rely more upon God than ourselves.
He is our focus but he,
our son, is more in perspective.
For if we don't have each other at our best,
he will suffer the almost certain unrest
that leads to much, too much distress.
Today we love, we do, we share.
Today we talk more, walls that divide, beware.
Today we set goals, and post them to see.
Now we're headed somewhere
we both hope to be.
This love of ours is changing for the better.
God's guidance leads us to much clearer weather.
Now he smiles more and frowns less
because we're not under duress,
like overworked leather.
We're coming full circle a day at a time.
My prayer for today seeks only sublime
moments together with him and alone.
We have only this life to give each one another,
and with his mother, my wife
I offer myself to Him, and him and no other.
So, I thank you God
for showing us the way
to a happier life
just for today.

You've come a long way, Scott. Your love is transformed, like you are, one day at a time. God gave my hubby and me the gift of forgiveness early on. It has made all the difference. May you have a joyful day.

A father's love (and a mother's love) is so beautiful.

Love these bits:

"We pull our love from the shelves,
and the re-gifting begins."

"Now he smiles more and frowns less
because we're not under duress,
like overworked leather."

I totally agree on finding the love within. We can't love others without loving ourselves.

Scott, there is a maturity to your words, and understanding of someone who has known pain, and recognizes joy and is thankful....simply beautiful. God bless you and your family and may you continue to feel His loving embrace Patricia
