Poetry Potluck

This weeks prompts for Poetry Potluck are "Cartoons, Sci-Fi and Super Powers." I think I can make something of this prompt which is a bit off my overworn path. (This is a good thing, I think!) Visit Jingle Poetry to read tons of great writing, and post a link to your own inspired work!

Dreams of a galactic hero...

Thus Spake Zarathustra slowly rumbles to life
stirring within me a desire to right strife.
Across the galaxy I'll fly,
with wind borne tears in my eye,
picking my way through smashed bits
of what was once galactic cream pie.

It seems a collision was imminent between sugar and spice,
evidently condiments that couldn't play nice.
I arrive on the scene to take stock of my dream.
When fetched up I find myself, almost a scream.

Wait... 'twas not Zarathstra's rumble at all,
but my innards that started this off with their call.
And so it would seem
this space warrior must fall.
For the mission I accepted
was no adventure at all.

While it pains me to say, I here must surmize
That while deep in dark slumber,
I've just realized
I must've forgot to enjoy my light snack,
before sawing lumber and hitting the rack.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for today's post. I can totally relate to the "not wanting to be in a good mood" feeling... I have been sober over 21 months and I still hang out to my poor-me sense of entitlement from time to time. Luckily I am surrounded by amazing people, both in and out of the program, who don't let me get away with it for long.

I have recently begun blogging myself. My site can be found at www.gratefulinrecovery.com and is called "Gratitude Girl: Chronicles of a Neurotic Alcoholic in Recovery." I look forward to reading more of your posts!

I have felt hunger pangs lately because I am not eating as well as before C's heart attack.
